A season of shifting
Fall is here and I’ve never related more to a shifting season, as I do right now.
This past summer, we began a very big move from Nova Scotia to Ontario. While my husband’s job may have been the initial reason for the move, it was really because the majority of both our families live in Ontario, and it felt like the right time for us to return back “home”.
Novas Scotia was “home” to us for 10 years, and so it was a very bittersweet decision for us to make. We cherish the memories and relationships that we built there, and look forward to returning again in the summer months for more memory making opportunities.
I won’t lie, this time of transition has been challenging on many levels, but I know that change can be a good thing and that there will be more good things to come, I just need to be patient in this shifting season. So I thought maybe I’d share some tips on how to find creative joy in the present moment, even if everything around you feels like it’s “shifting”. I hope you find this list inspiring, incase you are in a shifting season as well.
1. Go for a Fall walk. It’s can be somewhere new to you or perhaps in your immediate area. Take note of the shifting symbols. Canada geese flying, leaves turning, earlier nights.
2. Challenge yourself to make something small each day to nurture your creativity. Today I picked this small bouquet of wild flowers that I found along the path.
3. Write in a journal about what this shifting season means to you. Write out the good parts and the hard parts. It all matters. 4. Make a Fall music playlist. Some of my favourite Fall music includes piano music by George Winston, the Vince Guaraldi trio, Vivaldi’s Four Seasons.
5. Make a Fall ritual. Light a seasonal candle, make a seasonal drink, pull out some watercolours and let your creativity flow.
I wish you peace, comfort and coziness during this season.
