An art date at Peggy’s Cove, NS.
When my dear friend Leanne told me that she had an opportunity to come to Nova Scotia for a visit, I just couldn’t believe it. It had been 9 years since we had last seen each other, and honestly, I wasn’t sure when we’d see each other again. For context, Leanne lives in the Yukon (where I used to live) and I live in Nova Scotia, with a distance of 6000 kms between us. It’s not just a hop skip and jump away.
When we started planning our visit, Leanne (an accomplished artisan) let me know of a few things on her travel wishlist. She wanted to drink copious amounts of tea, go thrifting, see some iconic East Coast sites, make art and have lobster. I was more than happy to make those wishes come true.
Playing tourist with Leanne was so fun. For three days we booted around parts of Halifax, drove to Peggy’s Cove and to the Annapolis Valley. We found thrift shops, had Cow’s ice cream at the waterfront, spent an afternoon sketching and painting at Peggy’s Cove, devoured seafood and caught up on years of stories. It really was like no time had passed.
As soon as our weekend began, it was back to reality for us both. It felt so short, yet at the same time it was exactly enough. It’s amazing what two women who have no other responsibilities can accomplish when they have a few days of uninterrupted time together. From making art, to catching up on what we’ve both been up to for the last 9 years, to having some good laughs, it was just what my soul needed.
